A fond farewell

To my upmost joy the people were out in mass last night! There was screaming there was singing there was laughter, all to the ripe hour of 2am. So we have come full circle, the drunks have said their goodbyes and it is time to journey back into the real world, of bills, swimming, work, and dogs. Funny how it is bittersweet; when I woke up this morning, after a lovey 3 hours of sleep, I was saddened to realize it is over. I think back to all the strange and wonderful people I have met:
  • Willy Wonka/Ruben/Danny- how does his hair do that?
  • The uptight socially awkward man who runs this program
  • A-Jax- the tutor who looks like he is the croc hunter and wears the appropriate vest
  • Kewley- the tutor who promised we could come visit him in his home in the south of France.
  • Max- the 20 year old future academic who has mannerisms just like Mr. Burns, 'excellent...'
  • Lucie and her plumber cleavage
  • The sharped tongued debate monitor
  • The pinched face, ' I am smarter than you' girl
  • The oh so frustrating girl from Texas
  • The angry man with the big family that works in the hall.
  • The tall Egyptian student that befriended us in hall
  • The Jamaican Punter
  • The Muscle man, ghost tour leader
  • The guy who also went to DVC
  • The contingent of 20 year olds who kept us awake and annoyed.
  • The women from Texas with the hair extensions
  • And so many more...

The list goes on and on. In a thousand years I never would have imagined myself meeting and getting to experience all these different types of people and except for the loud drunks, this has been a month of my life that I will cherish. It was a chance to live like a college kid and bond quickly with people you never would have in the real world. A chance to challenge the mind and think outside the box. A chance to view the world through another cultures eyes. A chance to eat gross food nightly and thank them for the weight we lost. A chance to be enrolled in the oldest university in the Western World. A chance to see what real old buildings look like. More than anything this past month provided me with memories that will make me laugh, ponder, and smile. It has been a good month and one that I am sad to see go.

As my plane flight looms in the near future, 27 hours to be exact, I am sure I will become more and more grateful for what I have been through in the past month. Hopefully my day to day entries have kept you entertained and maybe you even laughed a bit as well. I know I have...
